I've noticed tons of periwinkles on the rocks at Ordiorne Point, some in Newcastle, etc. Does anyone know if A) it's legal to Harvest them, and B) if it's safe to eat them?

I've tried a bunch of internet searches, but not finding much, and not sure who I'd be able to check with. Thanks.

I'm not sure if there is any regulations set to harvesting them, but it is safe to eat them. Over the years I've noticed a increased number of people harvesting them when the tide is right. Typically I've seen one or two people out harvesting, but now it's like 6 or 7. I never thought to ask anyone if it's legal or not, and have never been approached by anyone either. One of the old timers I see all the time calls harvesting them "Wrinkling"

you can eat them. Search for winkles not wrinkles - lots Brits eat them with pepper and malt vinegar - you might find ways to do it under whelks too but I think they are not actually the same thing but people confuse the two
