best haejangguk?

Korea's answer to the bloody mary to cure the hangover blues. A great spicy stew of dark greens, spicy bean paste, and corned beef served with gakkduki kimchee on the side.

If I could have it every day I would.

Does anyone know of a decent (I'm not holding my breath for stellar) version of this homey dish?

Any leads would be much appreciated. I've been stricken with a mean flu strain that I'm starting to think can't be kicked without a decent bowl of haejangguk.

But it's not served with corned beef. I hope tripe and blood are OK for you. This is the only hae jang guk that I know of it...and it's terrific.

              Would you settle for menudo?

I often seek out menudo. Currently I've been sampling different ones in the Mission. Do you have reccomendations?

haejangguk is still my food holy grail.

Thank you :) I'm in the middle of trying to convince a friend to drive me down there!

                  • Old message, but there's a great place on Telegraph Avenue. My parents and I went there and I ordered a "safer" dish of dolsotbibimbap while my Dad ordered haejangguk... My mom and I kept stealing bites of his soup. It comes with seasoning salt on the side and smells up a storm since it has big chunks of tripe in it too. The place looks like a dive, but ohhhh soooo good haejangguk. It was like comfort food. If I find the right address, I'll post it. They make their own mandus too.

It's a place with a bright yellow plastic tarp sign that says teriyaki chicken on it... but inside it's korean food.

I hope you found something to get over your cold. I find that matso ball soup works, but haven't found a great place locally.
