Conveyor Belt Sushi in Monmouth/Ocean County?

monkeyface May 28, 2007 07:25 PM

I'm looking for a sushi restaurant in monmouth/ocean county that serves sushi dishes on a conveyor belt (I believe this is called a kaiten zushi?).

Wow! You bought up a memeory of a little tiny place in Waikiki, Hawaii when I read your post. The sushi was probably the best I have ever had. It was such a small, tiny little place, but packed with locals!

Sorry I can't help you with a place like this in this area, but if you find one..please post!! (Although I know the fish won't be as great as Oahu!)

Like bqut1, I don't know of any "conveyor belt" sushi places in NJ. I did see reference to a place in NYC but it was described as "disappointing" and overpriced.

I used to visit Japan a lot and I can tell you that we went to the conveyor belt places only if we needed to eat very quickly. Without exception, the sushi was average at best with very little variety. The ingredients were fresh but it was apparent that they were not of the highest quality and the sushi chefs were kind of second or third tier, i.e. they would never get a job in a really good sushi restaurant.

Nothing I've seen in the area. Check out Sushi by Kazu in Howell for great non-conveyer sushi.

The last such place I've seen like that in NJ was up in Teaneck, Bergen County at East restaurant. Just average; unremarkable. It's a fun experience-once; in a good place. Otherwise, I'd stick to something local that's non-moving.
