Good clam chowder somewhere between Venice & Redondo beach? hopefully with an ocean view

Hi Everyone,

I am taking my mom to the airport tomorrow (LAX). We wanted to stop for lunch somewhere sort of close by for lunch. We looooove clam chowder and an ocean view would be an excellent add in.

I know I'm a "day late and a dollar short" on replying..based on the date of the original post...but the Chart House has "Award Winning" Clam chowder. Kings fish house and McCormick & Schmicks' in Pasadena also. IMHO, out of the three, Chart house has the best.

I had a good bowl of clam chowder in Manhattan Beach not too long ago. I think it was at Rock 'N Fish? I also eat at Shanghai Red's in the Marina pretty often - I like their clam chowder too - nice outside area to sit on the water too (though it is the Marina, not the ocean).

Fat Face Fenners Fishack on the Hermosa Pier has a great clam chowder. It's upstairs and you face the ocean.

Thank you for all your suggestions. I am a New England Clam Chowder lover, so I will eventually get to all of these places. :)

We ended up at Fat Face Fenners Fishshack, and although they were out of clam chowder, their lobster chowder was great. We had a lovely afternoon before mom had to go home. Thank you for the suggestion.

Blue Water Grill on Catalina in Redondo has a good chowder, sourdough bread, and a decent house salad. It's on the Marina.

I think we are talking about the same place. Catalina turns away from the water and the road that continues along the water is then North Harbor Drive and Bluewater Grill is there.
Anyway, “good chowder, sourdough bread...” I second that. Most of the time that bread is still hot and IMO it is among the best sourdough in the state that is known for sourdough. The service has been very good also on all our visits and we have been there many times because relatives once lived in the condos next door. Now, if there is room left over the lobster roll is also very good and can be shared. I ask that the lobster be on the side from any added salad. This reminds me that it has been a year or so and I need to do that lunch again soon. The view is of the boats tied at the docks but the ambiance inside is nice as well.

Easy parking also. If you consider this place maybe call and reserve.

The same. The oysters have been very bad the last two times I have been there. I always get the dressing on any salad on the side as they tend to have a heavy hand.
Overall, I do like it and it is a very pleasant ambience. You can also sit outside near the dock.
