Le Select or Niagara Street Cafe?

tasoid May 27, 2007 04:50 AM

Going for dinner tonight and have to make a choice between the two places. Have not been to either in six months or so..Any votes on which place to choose??

I would definitely go with Niagara Street Cafe. My experiences at Le Select (which is a fine looking venue) have lead me to believe that in order to maintain the prices of their meals they are using less than top quality raw materials.

I much prefer NSC when they first started out. Loved the menu on the mirrors, deconstructed warm ceasar salad....find the food just okay these days. But still love Anton.

Niagara Street all the way. Anton is one of the city's best hosts. Le Select...wouldn't go back. Rude service, pedestrian food, and arrogant super old school owners.

Agreed on the pedestrian food-nothing spectacular there, although whoever is on the hotline is pretty damn amazing with the meat. All of the dishes in our party were cooked to perfection, including my calf livers, which IMO are not easy to do.

          Can't comment on NSC.

I enjoy Le Select during the day, but in the evening I would definately head over to see Anton and Mike at Niagara Street Cafe.

if choosiin g Le Select, phone and make a reservation, have been three times, without reservations, when dressed up, they say no reservation, no problem, when extremely casual, they say reservation is a MUST, even with multi empty patio tables. Not impressed by snooty hosts!.
