Utopia -- Not quite
Today, my wife and I headed to Utopia on College St. for a quick lunch. We arrived at 1:30pm and grabbed the last table in the front. I can only assume the back patio was busy, as is usual during the summer. After reviewing the menu, we ordered (a Lamb burrito for her and a Grilled Salmon burrito for me) -- the time 1:35pm.
I could go into great detail, but I'll summarize. 70 minutes of waiting. No food was served. We asked the waiters where our food was three times and were told the same story -- it's on its way. Needless to say, that was not the case. We walked out without getting our food served.
The pair next to us ordered two minutes before we did. They had enough time to order, start eating, have a long conversation with some friends who were on the street, finish eating, pay and leave within 45 minutes of ordering.
I was really unimpressed with their apathy. They barely acknowledeged our existence once we ordered. They gave no explanations regarding our food order, only that it was coming and never with a time frame attached. I can only assume the problem stems from a packed back patio -- which obviously puts great stress on their tiny kitchen. The only way I will ever go back will be in the dead of winter when it's virtually empty so I can be guaranteed a meal delivered within a reasonable time and proper service.
From experience, it sounds like they lost/forgot your order and the waiter didn't actually check with the kitchen each time he said it was coming. Eventually he realized and got the order pushed thru. No matter how busy, it doesnt take as much as 40 minutes, let alone 70!
Were the fries good, or are they forever ruined and now a treat of the past? They used to be some of the best in the city, but they were aweful on my last two visits.
I am sure the waiters did not check with the kitchen. They answered "it's coming" right after we asked the question, no hesitation, no asking the kitchen.
We didn't get served. We walked out. We wait so long that we were angry and didn't want to give them our business anymore. So I can't answer your fries question.
