Pelican Club

Anyone been there lately? What are your thoughts? Thinking about it for an anniversary dinner...

Have you tried Cafe Giovanni on Decatur? Live opera and other Broadway numbers on Wed, Fri, Sat from 7-10pm. It's a different and unique dining experience My family and I had a terrific dinner at the restaurant on May 19.

unfortunately, I'd rather have crackers and beer than try to dine to opera. I know that makes me a rube, but it's true...

I ate at the bar recently with a friend at the Pelican Club. I thought the food was very good. The service was not: the bartender, although well intentioned, was just an amateur.

Forget the Pelican Club. You might go there once, but not a second time. For something different in that part of the Quarter, consider Louis XVI. It's the courtyard restaurant inside the Hotel St Louis.

It's not Commander's Palace, and it's certainly not Galatoire's. But it's pleasingly different with excellent service and a fine menu...

Wow, pretty unanimous no from y'all, and it's rated so highly by many, I'm surprised! Wanted to try someplace we hadn't been, but may stick to one of our favorites... Thanks

I definitely agree with mardy...no go for a second round. Food was just OK..a little disappointing considering all of the wonderful things I heard. Our service was great, as was the wine, but those two things do not make for a great meal.

Try Muriel's or even MeauxBar (on Rampart), neither have ever disappointed, and they both have a great atmosphere.

Try GW Fins for your anniversary dinner. I went there to celebrate my birthday recently and found it to be a great place for a memorable meal. It's off Bourbon.
The seafood was very fresh. Their apple pie is a great signature dessert. You have to order it when you order your entree because they bake it for you while you have your meal.

I have always had good experiences there, but there have been more than a few not so good reports on this board. When it is full it gets very noisy, which may not be what you are looking for doing an anniversary dinner.
