haven't noticed this place mentioned in quite a while. so how is it? and is it worth stopping by for lunch or dinner is the best way to go?

seems like a dying breed of restaurant (i.e. menu items such as chateubriand for two, lobster thermidor, steak diane, pepper steak, etc).?

I went w/my family after reading some positive reviews on here.
The Steak Diane has no flavor whatsoever -- I wouldn't serve it to a dog.
The only yummy things are the flambe desserts: bananas flambe, cherries jubilee, etc.
Other than that it's a bust. That it has had some mentions on "top steakhouse" threads is laughable.

can i sit at a table most likely and just have a cherries jubilee, and knock back a few drinks?

i think dal rae is the only joint in town that offers Cherrie's Jubilee.

They have always been very accomodating. You used to be able to get the Cherries Jubilee in the bar area, but they may have stopped that. I am quite sure if you go later, just getting dessert shouldn't be a problem.

I've actually always had good, if old-style, food there. Definitely worth a visit as it is the last of a dying breed - and it's always packed.
