re: heckonwheels
Central Park is 'way up in my Burger Search results so far - not quite as fancy as some other boutique/barburgers, but not as expensive either. The menu I have here says it's $8.25, which is about half the price of Julienne's, but the burger itself is IMO much better. Have yet to try Mike and Anne's. As for Connal's, I was a little disappointed in the one I got; thought it was not quite as good as The Hat's.
For the record, I generally prefer my burgers flat-grilled instead of flame-broiled, though a good cook using good meat can make me happy either way.

Here is one for you!
The "Hawkins" burger consist of three, one-pound ground beef patties. Each pattie has different toppings. Pattie one has 2 Italian sausages with hot chili sauce and cheese. Pattie two has 2 eggs over easy with chili sauce. Pattie three has 1/2 pound of the best pastrami in town with chili sauce. This all comes on a giant bun with divider pieces of bread in between the patties.
They just re-opened in Pasadena. Take some paddles or nitro pills with you!

It's ALL the way up Fairoaks in Altadena (also known as Trash-e-dena). Been reading about it for awhile, glad that it is back. Going to try it one of these days.
For me the HUGE burger days are gone the biggest I like is the one at the Montebello Golf course. But I'll make the drive out to El Monte for an Art's burger any day.

re: Burger Boy
i finally tried this place a few weeks back - i tried to go there several months ago on one of my foodie romps but after sitting at the drive-thru for 5 minutes, then driving up to the window - yelled in a few times ( decided not to do the honk the horn routine ) i said heck with it and left ( tried a chili dog from a local place up the street and then art's for their double-double )
i had the double burger, cheese, grilled onions and bacon. it was a decent burger but didn't wow me - i did like that they put the grilled onions between the burgers with the cheese so they could meld together ...great idea !! i think it's that i favor a char-broiled burger more but this place is worth trying if in the area-
re: kjs
I know what you mean about the drive thru, but I am pretty sure it is a char/flame grill, no? Still want to try the Montebello CC burger. There is also a Taco Bell on Peck, a mile north of Valley, that does the Bell Beefer w/cheese. That was Taco Bell's foray into the burger world.

re: Burger Boy
Just returned from Yanakis Burgers. This is what I call one of the “Totality of the evidence burgers.” The flavors include the char burger, a little char grease mixed with melted cheese, and that sauce. The sauce is kinda-like thousand island and remoulade sauce (or tarter) mixed – Greek style comeback sauce. The sauce brings it all together for me. It reminds me of those Saturday Night Live skits in the Greek place when a customer asked what the sauce is the only response from the cook is, “You-like’a-da-sauce, uh?” I love this sauce on Char burgers and have had it along with the same double 1/4 pound char patties (must always be a double) at two other local places that do it right also – Flames (El Monte) and Bravo Burgers (Pomona and San Dimas). I once worked in San Dimas and would stop for a double at 9:00 am three times every week for over a year for my fix of burger, char grease & cheese and that comeback sauce.
One other Totality burger, but of a different kind, is the legendary chili burger at The Boat. The boat’s menu is now being served inside the North Woods Inn but to get the right burger you must be clear that you are ordering from the Boats menu and NOT the North Woods menu. There is something just as special about the totality of this griddled burger, cheese, and chili. It is not a matter of “this one is better than the Greek comeback burgers,” or vice versa, but it is more like which one tonight? SGV rocks.
