downtown rec for a group?

I'm trying to think of a fun place for a group of 13 people (in their 20's and 30s), preferrably downtown (village, LES, etc) or even Brooklyn. It will be for dinner on a Sunday, not looking for an all inclusive kind of thing but i imagine we'll order a la carte (anywhere from 10-30 per person, not including drinks). No particular cuisine, but something with great atmosphere, good drinks, etc. I've noticed a lot of people recommend Otto for larger groups, and that's a thought, but any other recommendations would be much appreciated!

  1. okay, i know, this is the most over asked question ever. after looking through old posts, i've come up with these ideas:

    Blue Ribbon
    Mara's Homemade

i've been to Blue Ribbon and love it, and assuming 'inoteca is great as i've been to ino, but know nothing about the rest. thoughts? anything more inventive? thanks!

Otto is great. Aquagrill is very good, but not that fun. I'm not a big fan of BR, find it overpriced. Like you, I've only been to 'ino, not 'inoteca, but 'inoteca always looks fun when I pass by. Otto is bigger, so you might have more luck w/seating, but I believe 'inoteca has a space downstairs for groups.

        Thanks Lucia.

How about public? some of us are architects, so that seems like a cool atmosphere.

I've only been for brunch, which was just fine. The space is cool. What's kept me from going for dinner is mixed reviews and somewhat high prices. I think it would have the atmosphere you're looking for, though.

I really enjoyed Public when I went. It is a very lively atmosphere and I loved my food when I was there (had the kangaroo app. and the shrimp entree.) I think it is definitely worth a trip
