Brooklyn Fairway, lobster roll [moved from General Chowhounding Topics]

  • 0

On 4/18/07 there was an article in the NY Times by Peter Meehan covering food counters at various gourmet supermarkets. He singled out what the Brooklyn branch of Fairway calls a lobster roll as being "the cheapest lobster roll in the City".

Cheap it is, and for a reason. It is not a lobster roll. It is a lobster SALAD sandwich. There is a huge difference between a lobster roll made from chunks of lobster with some mayo and celery and a lobster salad which is like a tuna salad sandwich made from tuna out of a can rather than a salad made with seared fresh tuna.

What is so appalling is that a food writer from the NY Times would promote such false labeling. People like me depend on editorial comments like those from Mr Meehan to be objective and the result of personal research. I can't understand where he is coming from in this case.
