If you are lucky enough to live in the Boston area, head over to John Dewers Butcher, pick up a 5 lb. box of frozen patties, fire up the grill, throw on the grill frozen and enjoy; they are delicious, high quality, thick, juicy and easy!

Good tip!

For another Boston-area purveyor, River Rock Farm (found at the farmer's markets) also has excellent burgers, large, thick, and made with aged ground beef.

That's a good question, I'm not sure. I know someone mentioned they were at the Davis Square FM in Somerville a couple of days ago. You could ask on that thread, but you might want to post a separate one on the Boston Board as there are a lot of fans of RRF so someone should know.

I went to college with Jon Konove, who used to run River Rock Farm. He tragically passed away this past fall at the age of 29. I'm glad to see that his family is still continuing his legacy. He used to love coming into the city on a weekly basis to sell their meat.

How sad. I remember posting that - I think there was a Boston Globe link too. I only knew him from the farmers market, but he was such a friendly, passionate person. What a tragedy. All the more reason to support the wonderful people at River Rock Farm.

Apparently they deliver to your home with a minimum order of $20.

Or at Cold Spring Park Farmer's Market but you have to wait until July.
Newton: Tuesdays, July-Oct.(Cold Spring Park).

I've ordered from them for home delivery - they're really great. One caveat - they don't necessarily come into the city every day of the week, although with the farmer's market season underway they're probably around pretty often.

Yes, they were there - that's where I first got introduced to their beef.

BTW, the secret to getting fish if you hit the Brookline market late in the day is to get on the nice woman's e-mail list - she will e-mail you earlier in the week w/what she has on offer that week, and you can pre-order. If she's gone altogether by the time you get there, she leaves fish orders (well-packed on ice) with the woman who manages the market. I don't get to the market myself till close to 6, but once I learned that system it made a HUGE difference.

I'm a fan of Sulmona's in the North End.

They grind it fresh when you order it..great for burgers or tartare..have them just grind once and leave it a little more coarse for tartare.

Agreed. Really like Sulmona's meat in general.

Savenor's grinds all their burger meat, too. And you can make special requests if you want it lean (why would you?), 15% fat or 20%, mostly chuck with a little sirloin, etc.

They also sell fresh Wagyu, both as steaks and ground.

I'm a big fan of Savenor's too. I get most of my steaks there..and they're a close second to Sulmona's for ground beef.

I like that Sulmona grinds when I order (chuck) but good to know that Savenor's will too.

I was going to give a nod to Sulmona too, but 9lives beat me by about 24 hours. Its where I go when I want to treat myself! FWIW, other butches will grind to order for you -- even though McKinnon's has pre-ground meat they will grind to order as long as you don't show up at closing time. Also if you have a Brazilian butcher nearby, they usually grind to order (I went to the one near BJs in Medford for the presunto chowhound because I didn't have time to grind my own meat).

Dom's sausage will deliver to your BBQ and I believe they offer patties that they make, as well as marinated meats and sausage. Bob's of Medford also has BBQ packages with quality ingredients including hamburgers but am not certain if they make those to order.

Wilsons in Lexington has great burgers, too. They some in a two pack- ½ pound each, so I usually remake them into a few more if feeding kids or smaller appetites. Angus burgers, great on the grill. I think they are $5.00 per package.
