NOBU Recs?

Dear Chowhounds,

I'm taking a friend and his wife to dinner at Nobu on Saturday as a wedding present.
I've searched the boards and haven't found anything recent on Nobu.
So Chowhounds, I'm curious. What are your recommendations? What are the must-haves, and the things you could do without? Should we order dessert there, or go elsewhere.

Any and all guidance is appreciated.

Sincerely;
Insatiable

    cimiu did a recent review on Nobu. Search the Manhattan board for Nobu 2007.

      For a wedding present I would suggest the entire table do the omakase. I did it with a couple for a present and they loved it.

        Insatiable,

        I find at Nobu that the cooked dishes are tastier than the sushi/sashimi itself, and I'm a sushi addict. If you want unbelievable sushi/sashimi, go to Yasuda. Having said that, there are some signature dishes that everyone should try when they go to Nobu. Yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño is a must to begin with and the sashimi salad is always nice to share as an appetizer as well, but it's not a necessity. You MUST have the Broiled Miso Black Cod. You've never tasted anything like it. I'd also recommend the Rock Shrimp Tempura and the Broiled Toro. If you want more after that, THEN I would recommend ordering some sushi ala cart per the recommendation from waiter/chef, based on what fish is the freshest that night.

        Have fun!

          We went with the tasting menu. The moderate one, maybe $75 pp. I think it had the black cod. Mario Battali was dining there when we went. Food, service were flawless.
