Restaurants near/in Port Perry
I am having some visitors from Britain and will be taking them to my cottage near Bancroft. We go less busy routes (407 - Lakeridge Rd etc)and one of them goes near Port Perry. Does anyone know of a good (not chain) restaurant around there? Preferably something with a little ambience that is open for lunch.

We would highly recommend:
Mexico Lindo
1821 Scugog Street (right across the street from Halibut House Fish And Chips)
Port Perry, ON
905-982-0109Authentic Mexican food, prepared with loving hands by Miguel, the Owner and Chef.
Great value, friendly casual atmosphere. Starting June 2008, Miguel is serving authentic Mexican breakfast on the weekends...closed Mondays, I think.Highly recommended.

You take exactly the same route that I do from Toronto to Bancroft. I've stopped a couple of times at Halibut House Fish And Chips (985-0880). It's on Scugog St. in Port Perry. It's a fairly nice looking restaurant and if your visitors want the same food as back home, this may be the place!

I quite like the Piano Cafe (www.pianocafe.ca) for lunch. It's in a lovely old building on the main street. I think the menu is largely sandwiches, salads, quiche, that sort of thing. One of the few places to get a latte - it's definitely a Tim Horton's town!

Jesters Court ... correct, directly across from IGA maybe Sobeys ..
Steak and Portobello salad has been pretty good to me ... wraps are nice as well ...Not the least bit upscale is the Highland Family Rest .. Peas and potatoes for the most part ... quite the massive turkey dinner is served there ...
Port Perry Halibut House - I was there once and don't relly remember what I had so can't recall it was impressive ... not thinking so or I would recall ...

Not sure of your definition of ambiance, and if you mean elegance, read no further. But Haugen's Chicken and Ribs has food that's better than Swiss Chalet, is licensed, has homemade pies, fresh-cut fries, and good-sized portions, as I remember. That's where I go in Port Perry.

This might not be the spot for your lunch - but every time I go through Port Perry, I always buy a bottle of raspberry vinaigrette from The Pantry Shelf 172 Water Street. It is so good, and will be great for your salads at the cottage! Here's a website for businesses in Port Perry http://www.ylm.ca/Orgs/YLM_Company_De...
