Breakfast in Greenfield MA
Looking for a spot to grab a big hearty breakfast Memorial Day morning after a long weekend of Camping. The only posts on this board are outdated. Greenfield, or points south with easy access off I-91, will need to CHOW before Northampton. Thanks

The Shady Glen in Turners Falls has/had a great reputation, But I haven't been there since the owner/chef of thirty years retired and sold the business a couple of years ago. Man, they had the greatest pies there too, Do any of the Hounds have recent experience they can share?

re: Harp00n
I can't speak for the breakfast, but I stopped at the Shady Glen on a whim for an ice cream sundae about a year or so ago, and I liked the place in general. I'd definitely give it a try for breakfast if my travels out that way didn't always take me closer to the Chelsea Royal.

* The Wagon Wheel Drive-in off Rte. 2 in Gill has a good reputation (I personally haven't tried it, but I hear good things about their burgers and coffee).
* The Esselon Cafe off Rte. 9 in Hadley (20 minutes south of Greenfield) has a wonderful European atmosphere; the food is sophisticated and somewhat different than the standard eggs-toast-home fries. Don't expect huge portions.
