Breakfast--Madison/29th area?

Dr. Debs May 21, 2007 03:58 PM

I'm visiting NYC for business and must achieve escape velocity from hotel. Meetings have left very little time for exploring. Any good recs for breakfast in the area between Madison Square Park and Empire state and 5th and Lexington?

Sounds as though you are staying in the Carlton? Have you tried the Cafe at Country for breakfast? But since it's escape you're after...

Penelope, on the corner of Lex & 30th, is a charming little restaurant with very good food.

Well, you can escape to Paris, sort of at Les Halles Park between 29th and 28th http://www.leshalles.net/ny_park.php. Penelope? It's right across the street from and I went once, and found it to be overpriced and a bit cutesy wootsy -- but if you are on an expense account...

If Les Halles' breakfast food is anything like the sub-par stuff they serve at dinner and service is as poor, I would avoid it like the proverbial plague.

It's a little outside your parameters but Chez Laurence on Madison & 38th serves a good b'fast. Great French pastries too-especially the croissants-good coffee. If you have the time give it a try.

Eisenberg's would be a fun little slice of old New York, although the breakfast food is nothing special. It's on 5th just below Madison Square Park.
