La Petite Grocery

  • 9

Has anyone been to La Petite Grocery recently? I'm wondering how things have changed since the original chef left.

  1. I went several weeks ago and it was mixed for me. The escargot was SO bland that I almost dreaded my main course. It was quite a relief when my bouillabaisse was beyond flavorful with the perfect amount of richness. Service was good but the wine list was HORRIBLE. Guess it just depends on what you get.

Rebuilding wine lists post-K has been a big challenge for NOLA restaurants.

I'm curious as to why that is. After all, its been 2 years now.

I can't say that I agree with Blumie. Maybe my tastes are not as sophisticated, but I have not seen a big change.

Certainly much wine was lost in the storm, and I have not been to Petite, but I've seen very nice wine lists at Cuvee, Emerils, and Bayona, just to name a few. Even as a local, I have to agree that after two years, unless your standard is verticals of Margaux or Petrus, a good wine list is a reasonable fine-dining expectation.

I completely agree. it is a reasonable expectation to see a well-rounded wine list anywhere that entrees cost above $30. I don't want to see 50% of the wine list on the shelves at Sav-A-Center. Good wine is NOT hard to get at all.

    2. Give me a break. The wine reps are in every restaurant every day. There is no reason for any restauant to have an excuse for a bad wine list.

They can and should have a decent wine list, but it's extremely difficult to have a list with the same depth as one that is built over a period of years.

      2. I went to La Petite at the end of April - the food was pretty good but the service was mediocre. If I were going to drop that kind of cash I'd spend it at Dante's, Marigny Brasserie or somewhere like that...
