Cook your own steak, Gardena

Years ago there used to be a restaurant in Gardena, that you used to grill your own steaks. It wasn't korean, but a whole steak, with the ususal sides, salad, baked potatoe, etc. Does anyone know if it still exists, or something similiar in the general L.A. area.. Thanks

I drove by it today on the way to Shakas. It looks like it still serves food!

Venice Room is on the way to the job I've been at for about a year. The restaurant looked shut up tight for awhile but now there is an application for license posted on the outside and the parking lot is always full --I believe it's open.

I stopped by the Venice Room today on my way to Shakas. The Venice Room was open and I noticed a guy walk out. I stopped and asked him and he said you can make your own steak. Now if they have a salad bar also, to make your own salad, it would be just like being at home but you get to go out and there is no mess to clean up. As for Shakas, I found out the hard way that the Monterey Park location don't have BFR. So I drove from there to Alhambra for BFR. I hope you enjoyed whagt ever you had...

I believe Shakas is a Hawaiian joint so I'd guess BFR=bacon fried rice. That's only a guess on my part and I've never been to Shakas.

Only place I know that resembles what you describe is a place in Carpinteria (I know...not in LA area).

          Palms Restaurant
          701 Linden Ave
          Carpinteria, CA 93013

Ahhhh... It would have to be in Carp - my sister lives there but she's a vegan... I love steaks, but this one wouldn't work out for me... nevertheless, as always, you are a wealth of information and experiences... who would have guessed in Carp?

Its an institution in Carpinteria. We'd go there to "cook out" when camping at Carpinteria State Beach. It was kind of a fun place.

My sis has lived in Carp since the late 70s and never told me about it... I wonder why... This year she gets a bag of carrots for Christmas! And I'm having steak!

It was Fortune's on Redondo Beach Blvd west of Normandie, gone since the mid-80's I'd say.

I stand corrected, it was The Fortune Room.

I remember the Fortune Room back in the 60s on Western Ave. across the street from the old Eagle's Restaurant.
