Fun, Inexpensive Manhattan Restaurants

This is very ill-defined request, but my cousin is in Manhattan for the first time next weekend. I'm looking for trendy, fun, inexpensive (under $30/pp without alcohol) restaurants that are unique to NY (i.e., you can't find similar in the Chicago area). We're open to anywhere in Manhattan. Thank you in advance!

Let's say the Village - East or West.

Momofuku East Village, Highline- meatpacking, Dos Caminos soho

    2. Go to a big Dim Sum parlor in Chinatown, such as Triple Eight on East Broadway built into the base of the Manhattan Bridge. The last time I was in Chicago, there was nothing like that there.
