        <content>Excuse my ignorance being from the UK but what's the custom about restaurants being open on Memorial Day (Monday).  I've tried to book at my top 2 but they are both closed. </content>

      <content>Hey, Kevin S,  There is no general custom for restaurants to be closed on Memorial Day.  Danny Meyer (Union Square Hospitality Group) does tend to close his restaurants on major holidays.  They would be the following:  Union Square Cafe, Eleven Madison Park, Gramercy Tavern, The Modern, Tabla, and Blue Smoke.  Also, a few of the more upscale restaurants may be closed.  However, most restaurants are open.  In fact, it is often easier to get reservations because many natives go away for the weekend.
