Grappolo d'Oro - Ditirambo's secret cousin (Rome)

My new husband's parents came in to town for our wedding last week - arrived jet-lagged and peckish to their rented apartment on Via Giulia by Palazzo Farnese. We struck out for Ditirambo but were met a dozen people waiting in the street for packed tables. A 180 degree turn put me face to face with Grappolo d'Oro - which is run by the same people (right? they used to have a joint website), and whose empty tables I could see from the street. It was incredibly good - innovative and interesting twists on classics - the only difference I could tell was that it has about 1/3 the wine list. A creamy asparagus soup with goat cheese, a white lasagna made with artichokes, pasta with mussels, seared tuna with red onion confit - all very fresh, tasty, and well priced. They went back without me when more family arrived! It was a great introduction to Rome for them.

It was so surprising to me that so many people were waiting SO LONG for Ditirambo (because their guidebooks said so?) when the same quality could be had across the street...
