Funny Exchange btw Batali and Bourdain - esp. on Top Chefs

Just read this article about Batali and Bourdain's exchange after White's book signing. Very funny on top chef's behaviors (Ilan and Marcel)

This is why I like Bourdain, about the blogosphere: "I think it’s great. They’ve beaten down the wall, and everybody’s invited to write whatever sh*t they want about you. It’s democratic." Of course he goes on to slam people like the Simpson's comic book guy with cameras.

There's no North African food in New York? Really?

"At least [Ilan] knew who to steal from ..."

There's everything here, but no, it's just not as mainstream worshipped as Momofuku pork belly stuff and tapas and sushi.

As Batali pointed out, there's no vernacular so its not as likely to catch on.

Looking on the NY boards, there seem to be Moroccan, Algerian, Tunisian, Egyptian, and Ethiopian restaurants.

Oh, I didn't mean to imply or affirm that there isn't plenty of North African food to be had in NY; just that it isn't as likely to gain the cult-worship status as other cuisines because of the lack of belief in the idea of a vernacular or shared terminology about it.

Batali complains in that article that there's no north African food in Manhattan, or at least that's what he seems to be saying.

A good read. I'd watch a chef-line up show of "The View" if these two were on the panel.
