Good Eats in Atlanta
I'm going to be in Atlanta this weekend for the first time (my first time in the south actually) and I'd appreciate any suggestions about where to eat. I'll be with my brother who is on leave from the army, so wherever we go, the food should be hearty enough to feed a guy who's been eating "S--- on a shingle" for the last few months.
I don't need anything real fancy, I live in New York so I have just about all the gourmet offerings I could want here. Just something yummy that I could only get in the south; BBQ, Soul Food, what have you.
Oh yes, and I'm staying in Buckhead....
There's gobs of info on the board already. Do a little searching and let us know if you have questions about any specific places. Thanks!
I recommend The Vortex on Peachtree or in Little 5 Points for bar food and people watching. For something more Southern, try Greenwoods on Green Street in Roswell. Both of these spots are reliable and serve HUGE portions. Have a great trip!
Take a cab to the Colonnade. Order a king cut prime rib, collard greens and fried okra. That's for your brother. Order fried chicken, mac n chz and collards for you. Order some crab cakes too. Bring cash. The bar pours stiff ones. The crowd is the gayly wed and the nearly dead. Disregard--you're there to eat. You'll likely have leftovers--be sure to pack up the cornbread and home made yeast rolls. A piece of key lime pie would be proper.
Then after, all the best strip clubs in Atlanta lay splayed before you on Cheshire Bridge Road, Note them on your cab ride back to Buckhead. So you'll know where to go later if hotlanta's bridge and tunnel folk fail to deliver during your Buckhead weekend rambles.
