Lunch in Lake Forest, IL

Hi. Can someone recommend a good lunch spot in Lake Forest, IL? Just a day spent with my Mom, and we're looking for something tasty! Thanks.

Very simple yet delicious- Lake Forest Food and Wine, or Foodstuffs; both equally distinguished and anything but boring delis. Fresh and delicious.

Lovell's is way over-rated and very expensive. Deer Path is for old people, and even though I am close to being old, I wouldn't eat there. Boring....Southgate is ok; outdoor seating is nice. But for relatively inexpensive, in-town, and nice menu try Francesca's, close to Market Square, or even better, The Grille on Laurel, best choice. Great summer dining al fresco or cozy in the winter by the fire. Live entertainment on Thurs. PM. Great food, great bar, not too crowded, close to downtown, best value. Definitely the best choice.

I certainly agree that Lovell's is extremely over-rated, over-priced and just has down-right BAD food. Don't waste your time.

Southgate Cafe is a very nice lunch spot. They have an outdoor seating area with a view of the quaint downtown market square. And good food!

I second the Southgate recommendation. The outdoor seating is great and the food is very good.

Metromix lets you search on its listings:
          http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/di...
for meals served (e.g. lunch) and location (e.g. Lake Forest). It lists 11 restaurants in Lake Forest that are open for lunch. I've only been to a couple of them, and not for lunch, but here's what I know. Lovell's is on Waukegan Road, west of town; if you are spending the day in the downtown shopping district of Lake Forest, you would have to drive there, so it's probably not the best choice from a geographic standpoint. (It's good for dinner.) Deer Path Inn is a very traditional (old-fashioned, old English style) hotel/restaurant where they serve a big (and decent) buffet Sunday brunch; that might be suitable. I haven't been to Bank Lane Bistro, but I've been wanting to try it; if you're looking for something nice and a bit creative, that might be your best bet.
