Penn Station Coffee

I may be asking for the impossible, but does anyone have any recommendations for good coffee at Penn Station? Please do not point me in the direction of Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts. What I'm interested in finding is a good cup of commuter coffee for that reverse commute out of the city.

  1. Two suggestions. While not in Penn, relatively close: D'Aiutos on 8th Ave between 30th and 31st Sts. They also have a full complement of Italian-style baked goods. And for a hot weather treat, try the ices. Also, Brown Cup on 8th between 26th and 27th Sts. BC is on the east side of the ave, across from McDonalds.

    1. I also reverse communte about once a week. This is a tough one, and I get frustrated when the cashiers are slow.

      Zaro's isn't too bad.

And there's also a small counter way downstairs (basement level, I think) in the NJ Transit wing (from the big main Amtrak/NJT room, take the stairs down towards tracks 1, 2, 3 and 4. Turn around at the bottom of the stairs and go back the other way down there. OR stay on the subway level rather than going upstairs. This place is around track 8, I think).
These ladies are fast AND nice. The bagels aren't great, but they have a decent selection of different pastries and fruits. I suppose this place is worth it if your track is down in this direction.
Edited to add: this is a shop in the wall rather than a stand-alone kiosk.
