Any ideas? I have heard a lot about Farallon from friends but a lot of threads on here tear it up so Im not really sure. Everytime I have looked at the menu online I havent seen much that I like, although I do want to visit because I love Pat Kuleto's other restaurants.
Where else has really really good seafood?

Yabbies on Polk Street has always been a favorite of mine. The seafood is fresh, the service is great and the atmosphere is fun.

If you're a fan of Pat Kuleto, go to Boulevard. Great restaurant, they do seafood well, and probably the best of Kuleto's various projects.

I don't eat out much anymore, but I've always felt that the Bay Area is sadly lacking in first-class seafood restaurants. I don't mean upscale destination places like Farralon or Aqua, but something closer to Anthony's Star of the Sea in San Diego. There is not much between Scoma's and Aqua in quality and price (although last time I looked at Scoma's menu it was getting up there in price). When asked, I always suggest Tadich or Sam's Grill (it ain't fancy or cheap) but good eats.

I agree with you. The seafood situation is weird. You would think with all this water ...

For me there just aint'f fish joints like in New England where you could go for a nothing fancy fish dinner.

However, the low on he scale places are usually awful and then there's upscale. Hayes Street Grill is probably a good happy medium.

Probably the best are Fish in Sausalito and Sea Salt in Berkeley. I'm not counting Old Port Lobster Shack (still haven't tried the North Beach location) or Woodhouse which focus on East Coast fish.
