Strong Coffee in Midtown/Times Sq?

I'll be staying in midtown for 2 weeks and would love to find a place with good strong coffee. Also, I love light roasts (too many coffee shops equate dark roast with strong!). Any advice for me? I would be willing to travel out of midtown so if you know a great place anywhere in Manhattan, I would appreciate it.

If you around Grand Central Station, Oren's (two locations, one in the food court) makes a great cup of brewed coffee.

I strongly second the Oren's suggestion -- best coffee in the city, imo.

There's a cuban lunch counter on 46th bet. 6th and 7th avenues called Cafe Margon that happens to have great coffees (as well as cubano sandwiches). Also, coffee at Cucina in the Metlife Building is pretty good.

Also, I should have mentioned, I'm looking for brewed coffee, not latte/espresso.

Not a place to sit and sip, but I like Empire Coffee on 9th Ave between 41st/42nd st to grab and go.

Try La Bergamote on 9th Ave and 20th Street and City Bakery on 18th Street between 5th and 6th Aves. Enjoy!

Thanks harrison and fsd for the recommendations. I had read about city bakery on the choc chip cookie post and was already planning a visit; this gives me another reason!

Empire does have some seats, although it's not especially cozy. A better spot would be Casa Cupcake across the street and down a block or so.

Agreed -- just stay away from the cupcakes.
