30th bday dinner in Brooklyn

mdog May 17, 2007 11:03 AM

Hi all-

My wife is turning the big 3-0 and I want to take her out for a nice dinner on her bday. We live in the bk heights area but are willing to travel. She eats EVERYTHING. Want to make it special- but nothing too outrageously expensive though. Anyone have any ideas??

Take her to Frankie's 457 in Carroll Gardens or Tempo, Al di La, Stone Park or Convivium in Park Slope if you're looking for delicious but moderately priced options.

Temp[o now has a $25 three course dinner from Sunday thru Thursday, $35 on Friday and Saturday. Was there on Sunday and had an excellent dinner and great service. For apps wife had the goat cheese salad, I had the polenta with sausage, both very good. Wife had the buccatini with sicilian pistachios, I had the rack of lamb ($6 supplement) both very good. For dessert wife had gelato, I had the date dessert, both very good. We were undecided about the wine, so the waitress brought us three glasses of wine to taste, which I thought was very nice. With cappucino, coffee and wine bill came to $101. A great deal. Well worth the money. Portions were also large.

I'd recommend Convivium Osteria on 5th Ave in Park Slope. My boyfriend and I went there for our anniversary dinner this year. Incredible food, a great wine list, and it feels like you've left New York and headed to the Mediterranean countryside. I especially love their garden.

I love Rosewater. Have had many good meals there. I've also heard good things about Saul and Grocery, but have never been to either..

what do you mean by not too expensive? My favorite restaurant is Brooklyn is The River Cafe, but that is a prix fixe of 80.00 per person. Not Stone Park, see other reviews of that it is down on it's luck for sure.
