tasty fried chicken to go in Park Slope/downtown Brooklyn?

I'm bringing the food to a friend's birthday picnic in Prospect Park and am a bit daunted by the idea of frying chicken for 15-20 (fried chicken is what the birthday girl wants). Any ideas about restaurants/to-go places that do a killer fried chicken? I've heard very mixed things about Dirty Bird To Go, am ready to go downscale (well, not to the level of KFC) if that's what it takes. Thanks so much.

  1. I don't know about "killer," but my husband likes the fried chicken at NoNo (North of New Orleans) at 293 Seventh Ave., and it's pretty close to the 9th Street entrance to the park.

    1. there's another thread about fried chicken for a crowd on this board at the moment. peruse that for some suggestions.

the two that might be most useful to you are the popeye's on court street in brooklyn heights and mitchell's on vanderbilt ave in prospect heights.

i like mitchell's a lot, and its within walking distance of the park. however, call first as their hours are funny and they will need advance notice to make a lot of fried chicken.

to go with it, i recommend their potato salad and their stewed okra with corn and tomatoes.

      1. One of the best fried chickens hands down is the one at Chicory, there is just no really is "killer". It is delicious, crunchy, moist...go now and try it. I am sure your friend will not be dissapointed.
