R.I.P. Waffle Shop
Looks like the old Waffle Shop across from Ford's Theater is about to be razed. I'll be sad to see her go, having enjoyed their $5 breakfast specials for years. I remember many a late night after a 9:30 Club show in the 1980s where we'd end up here and eat greasy burgers and fries before the long ride home. Truly the last of the classic old chrome diner facades downtown. Along with Scholl's Cafeteria and the soon-to-be-gone Restaurant AV, a DC chow place that's had a long life and will be sorely missed.

UPDATE: Waffle Shop staff will be setting up shop in the Lincoln House Restaurant down the street. They may change the name to Lincoln House Waffle Shop. No word on what they'll do in the basement. Great news for those downtown who want cheap diner fare and breakfasts.
Update: latest rumor is that the Waffle Shop staff are moving down the block to take up shop in the Lincoln House Restaurant. You can't keep a good greasy spoon down.
A couple of pics from the Waffle Shop's heyday. Clearly, it hasn't looked this clean in decades.
I've walked by that place dozens of times and it was never open! Did it shut down recently? I usually go during the weekends after seeing a movie at E St. I often eat at Bistro D'Oc but NEVER have seen the Waffle Ship actually open...so its certainly not a 24/7 place anymore.
It would be great if they opened another restaurant there. There are so few options in that area especially before or after a movie or show.
