Recs for Dinner with Friends from out of Town

What are the hounds' best recommendations for dinner with two friends coming in from out of town (Arizona). I'm not sure how adventuresome they are, and I'm looking for something reasonably priced. I live in the South End and they are staying in Somerville, so I am looking for something in one of those neighborhoods or anywhere inbetween. Thanks.

    1. First time visitors need to try the Clam Chowder at Legal Seafood. They are all over town. It's a Boston thing! and...reasonably priced.

On my last visit to Boston I had dinner at Petit Robert (near Kenmore Square) I am not sure if that is convenient for you, but it was delicious.

I'm sure you've been into B&G in the South End. If your friends want clam chowder, you'll get nuch better, made to order, clam chowder at B&G or Neptune in the North End.

          • I have eaten at Neptune, but never had the clam chowder. sounds like a good suggestion, though.

              1. In the South End at a relatively reasonable price range, I'd first recommend Franklin Cafe (assuming their recent touch-up of the space is finished). Other possibilities in this price range would include Dish, Metropolis, Delux Cafe, and (if they're more adventurous) Orinoco for Latin American food and Addis Red Sea for Ethiopian. There are several excellent but more expensive spots here such as Hamersley's Bistro, Icarus, Mistral, Butcher Shop, B&G Oysters, and Aquitaine which may be beyond your comfort zone. A quick call to these to check price ranges might be wise.

Somerville has some options as well, many in Davis Square. Gargoyles is an especially worthy choice, though perhaps getting toward the top of your price range. Out of the Blue (Italian seafood) is very good and moderate on the wallet, and if they're more adventurous, there's Namaskar (Indian) or Marta's on Elm (Tibetan); Redbones (BBQ) draws passionate yeas and nays on this board, and I'm among those who enjoy it. In the netherlands between Inman and Porter Squares, Evoo is top notch but again maybe a little pricey while Kebab Factory is a very good Indian spot.
