I saw in the Curmudgeon's Home Companion that someone was looking for a good place to get a Cubano sandwich. A new restaurant in San Rafael serves them up and they are good. Check out Sol Food on 4th St.

Sol Food's not new, there are lots of reports in the archive.

The first and last time I ate at Sol Food, I tried part of my wife's Cubano...while not the worst I've eaten, it was close. For some reason, the Bay Area just cannot get the Cubano. Better to get an Italian Hero.

Birley Sandwiches in the FiDi does a good pressed Cuban sandwich at lunchtime. Their menu describes it as: "Cuban sandwich with Pork Carnitas, Ham, Swiss Cheese, Pickles & Tomato," and the thing tastes great.

I just had Birley's Cuban for the first time today. It won't be the last time -- delicious!
