I went to Rosamunde's (and of course the Toronado) a few weeks ago and they were awesome. I had a merguez and an Italian with a few fine brews and was in heaven. I believe they still do the hamburger thing on Tues.

My family and I love Memphis Minnie's- we have been going there for 3-4 years. The owner is very friendly and great with our daughter(we call it the Piggy Place). But we go there for the food. We like the pulled pork and the beef brisket the best- its easy to tell the meat has been slow cooked and stands on its own. Comes with no sauce on it, you put your own on from the table sauce.

I suppose I have to try Brother In Laws sometime but their prices are about the same as Memphis Minnie's but its not very inviting to stay there and eat- Memphis Minnie's is pretty cozy.

By the way- we have eaten BBQ in South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and a few other places my wife doesn't consider "south" and it competes well, unlike most BBQ in the bay area.

I have to dissent. Memphis Minnie's has been my favorite barbecue in this area for years, and it still is. Anyway, people should try it themselves and make up their own mind.

Memphis Minnie's has been going downhill for a number of years, in my opinion.

It used to be a destination for us, driving down from Sacramento... but over the years...

Bob is a great guy and all, but sadly I feel he's not keeping up with the day to day operations like he used to.

Still a kitchy place to enjoy "swine dining", and darned if they don't have sweet tea, something many other bbq places should pick up on... and yes. sake.

the cornbread is dry and has no flavor. the meats are usually overcooked and also dry... or maybe i'm just always getting there on a "bad" day for the kitchen?

If I get to plan my last meal--it will be at Memphis Minnie's. But would it be the brisket (with a double order of greens) or would I go for the weekend brunch and have the beans and the pork hash?

Brother in Law's Barbeque #2 or whatever it's called on Divis at Grove wrapped up 4 chicken backs and gave it to me when I ordered a whole chicken to go. Whether they were out of full chickens or we got that treatment because I'm white and was with my boyfriend is a mystery; we haven't been back.

They are both still good, but there is a difference. Rosamunde is as good a sausage place as you will find anywhere, (not to mention the Tuesday burgers). However, Memphis Minnie's as good as there is in the Bay Area, but pretty mediocre when compared to what you get in the Southeast, or even in some northern cities such as Chicago, Cincinnati, and Cleveland.

I grew up in Missouri and have had barbecue at many of the good places in Kansas City, as well as some noted ones in Texas, and find Memphis Minnie's as good or better than any of those. Of course as we know, bbq is a very personal thing...

I've eaten at MM once, and that was enough for me to not go back. It was a late afternoon lunch, and the brisket was *dry*, even after drowning it in their sauces. I had heard to order the fattier stuff, and so when I ordered I did ask, 'how's the brisket today, nice and moist?' and was assured that it was. Well, it wasn't. I understand that BBQ is notoriously fickle, but either suggest that I order something else, or better yet give me a sample so I know. It's true that the sweet tea is good, but it's worth the drive south for Uncle Frank's. Really.

Rosamunde, OTOH, is consistently awesome. I had never really eaten veal before going there (my parents are opposed to it from a cruelty standpoint, so I never ate it growing up), but one weisswurst and I was hooked. I've also gotten them uncooked to go - parboil them in about an inch and a half of boiling beer for about 10 minutes before a quick turn on the grill - perfect.
