Anyone know where I can purchase the special steamer basket and pot (the rice itself, also)? East bay suggestions would be especially appreciated, although I'd go anywhere in the B.A. T.I.A!

There is a Thai import store on San Pablo in Albany. Across the street from Albany Ford I believe. Also there is another Thai store inside of Pacific East mall in El Cerrito/Richmond. Not sure if they will have the bamboo boat shaped steamer, but perhaps they can direct you to the right store.

The big kitchen supply store on Clement and 4th has them. I don't remember the name, but it occupies the space that used to be the old May Wah.

Frankly, you don't need it to do steamed sticky rice, which is what I think you'd want to do with it. I either wrap rice in cheese cloth or just put in a bowl and steam in a regular steamer. As long as you keep the rice away from the simmering water, it will be just fine. I don't see any other need for that flying-nun looking basket and pot.

Frankly, those bamboo baskets are a pain to use/clean.
