Soup Dumplings in NJ

I am having trouble finding recent reviews of restaurants in NJ (preferably in Bergen County or even Essex County). The older reviews I found seem to point towards China 46 in Ridgefield or John's Shanghai in Edgewater.

Does anyone have any updated reviews of the soup dumplings at either restaurant or even a new recommendation? I current go into the city to Chinatown for these.

  1. Hunan Garden (not 100% on the name and I've been there 100 times) on Rt. 46 E in Fairfield, across the highway from the Hertz rental place has awesome ones. It is a very authentic place. I am not a big fan of John's and China 46 are good though.

If you're traveling to Manhattan, you might be better off traveling to central N.J. instead. In the Edison/Highland Park/New Brunswick area, there is a pretty large settlement of people from Shanghai and a number of good restaurants too.

Try Grand Shanghai on Route 1, and Shanghai Park on Route 27 in Highland Park (less than 2 miles from each other) for a start. Both have been discussed heavily here.

Just to note that Shanghai Park also has another location in Princeton.

    2. Have you seen this thread? Petite Soo Chow is a very good restaurant, with good service, too. Delicious dumplings.

Wow, thanks so much for the tip about Petite Soo Chow! Glad I now have options, but based on the rave reviews, will probably try this one out first!

        Thanks to everyone. Happy eating!

Petite Soochow is a very good Shanghainese restaurant, but China 46's soup dumplings are markedly better according to many. very very thing skin, and very flavorful. Petite Soochow's are a bit thicker. i'd definitely try both places, though.
