Lunch in Detroit near Wayne State

SharonOhio May 12, 2007 06:44 PM

My husband, daughter and I will be making regular trips to Wayne State University health center (St Antoine and E Canfield) from Columbus Ohio. We should be done with our next visit around noon on Friday. Any suggestions for lunch either nearby or as we start on our way back south on I75? Also, some advice on the neighborhood would be appreciated. If nothing convenient or nearby, suggestions for the route home. Nothing fancy or high priced. Just good food suggestions.

Having a class at Wayne this spring, I have started eating there occassionally. I tried Twingo's on Cass near Hancock last week and enjoyed a spinach salad plate. Not too expensive - about $10 for a meal-sized salad and iced tea.

The classic WSU-area hangout is the Traffic Jam & Snug. It's on West Canfield (at Second, or two blocks west of Woodward), so you'd easily be able to find your way there. They bake their own bread, make their own cheese, brew their own beer. Fun, sort of offbeat place that's been around for decades. Good desserts and baked goods for the road.

I agree with this suggestion wholeheartedly, even though it's not a place I frequent (what can I say...I don't like beer or cheese). Traffic Jam & Snug is ecclectic in a good way, and they do a pretty darned good spiced fried fish if memory serves. Good place, and there's a reason it's been around a while.

Thanks for the recommendation. If it's not too busy on friday we'll give it a try.
