Indian Mangoes

Finally available in the U.S. after many years of prohibition. Apparently reason to celebrate -- http://news.newamericamedia.org/news/...

If anyone sees them in the D.C. area, please give a shout-out here, thanks.

The Alphonsos are arriving at local Indian markets -- and selling out in about an hour at $35/dozen.

Costco has Mexican Alphonso mangoes. They are small, yellow, and quite good, but not the best I've ever eaten. My father-in-law grows several larger varieties of mangoes in South Florida, and it's hard to beat his huge, tree-ripened fruit. But of course they won't be ripe for another few weeks. What specifically is supposed to the TASTE difference of the Alphonso, compared to more familiar varieties?
