Opinions on Caffe Buon Gusto or Maruzella on the UES?

Jel212 May 11, 2007 08:08 AM

The parents are meeting for the first time, and we wanted to take them somewhere low-key, inexpensive, but with a nice atmosphere. I scouted out both of these spots last night, and they're very cute, though I'm leaning towards the atmosphere of Caffe Buon Gusto. Any opinions good or bad?

Thanks so much!

I live in the neighborhood and have been to both. I think Marruzella is a little bit better than Caffe Buon Gusto. CBG does have an outside garden in back. I think Marruzella's tables are a little less crowded than CBG. Another good small Italian restaurant you might consider is Triangolo's on 83rd btwn 2nd & 1st Ave.

I tried CBG last night and it was HORRIBLE. The service was insanely bad, and the food was some of the worst Italian I've ever had.

I haven't been to the Caffe Buon Gusto on the UES but I have been to one in Murray Hill and the one in Brooklyn Heights. Food is ok -- nothing great but not offensive either. I would say it's definitely low key and there are plenty of options on the menu for everyone.
