Italian in Philly

Hi - I'm a college student trying to arrange an anniversary dinner for my girlfriend next week, and I'm looking for a decent Italian restaurant accessible by SEPTA. I remember a good red Italian place that I went to last year near Redding Terminal Market, which started with an M, but I'm having some difficulty tracking it down without a name. Any other suggestions would be great, I know that good Italian isn't hard to find in the area but would appreciate your advice. Would prefer to spend less than $60, but I'm sure I can work something out if a particular place is really worth it. Thanks!

You're probably thinking of Maggiano's Little Italy at 12th and Filbert, though many Chowhounds would dispute that this run of the mill chain is "decent Italian."

        Please don't go to Maggianos!

        I love Caffe Casta Diva

        Others love L'Angolo, Tre Scalini

L"Angolo is walking distance (2 blocks) to Broad Street Line subway. A great place to celebrate and food is good and affordable. BYOB makes it a plus.

It's not red gravy Italian, but my very favorite Italian place, Mr. Martino's Trattoria, meets your needs otherwise. It's two blocks from the Tasker-Morris stop on the Broad Street subway line, romantic, inexpensive, and delicious. It's BYO as well, so that helps keep the price down. Is the $60 figure including wine?
