Looking for a good lunch spot around 34th and 5th ave (empire st bldg)
I'm going to be working in the Empire State Building this summer and am looking for a good lunch spot around 34th st and 5th avenue (within walking distance.) Nothing fussy, just good food.

I really love this site for finding casual midtown lunch options:
The guy who writes the blog covers street carts pretty well. A lot of the best lunch places in our area are carts.
If you dont' mind the walk, try Sukhadia's (Gujarati Indian) on 45th btwn 5th and 6th.
You're also really close to Koreatown. I don't know the area well, but do know there are LOTS of incredibly good, incredibly inexpensive places, there. Maybe other Hounds can give more guidance.

Agreed - midtownlunch is a great blog for your purposes.
The first thing that came to mind when I saw the location on this thread was Koreatown; there are lots of posts about that on the Manhattan board if you'd like to explore the area, and most restaurants there usually have lunch specials. Woorijip (I'm never really sure I've got the spelling right) is a good place to start - steam table, very fresh packaged-to-go lunch items, and definitely check out the noodle soup counter in the back.

Our favorite steakhouse, Keens, is on 36th St, b/t 5th & 6th Avs. Excellent food and unmatchable old NY ambiance. For lunch, I'd choose the Pub Room, which is cozier and less expensive than the dining room.
AQ Cafe, in the Scandinavia House, on Park Av., b/t 37th & 38th Sts., is a cafeteria-style set-up. It's a satellite of Aquavit, so Chef Marcus Samuelsson is responsible for the menu of hot dishes -- Love those Swedish meatballs! -- salads, sandwiches, etc. Lots of tables in the spacious, attractive lobby.
