Happy Hour with Good Eats

now that it's sunny out, my husband & I are all about getting out for Happy Hour in the downtown core

We like to nosh too, esp on free bar snacks. Or on special price appies. But, free or cheap is only interesting if it's good. Don't want to waste those bites on untasty calories.

What places have great noshes to go with their happy hour, free, specially priced, or otherwise?

A bit out of the core, but the Mill St. Brew Pub has half-priced apps on Mondays after 3pm.

One place that comes to mind, but I haven't been in a few years is Big Daddy's Crab Shack and Oyster Bar on 212 King St. West (416) 599-5200. From what I remember, they have 1/2 price appetizers between 4-6pm. I believe they have a patio too.

Harbour 60 Steakhouse has complimentary hand sliced serrano ham, crisp double smoked bacon, assorted olives and pickles, spicy cheese straws and other goodies available at the bar--all free with cocktails.

But since you are looking for "free" goodies the price of their cocktails may be a deterrent for you.

thanks for the suggestion - that sounds exactly like the kind of bar we are looking for.
and just to clarify. price isn't an object, food quality is the priority - but free is good

I like the Beaconsfield for food and drink specials during the week between 5 and 7 pm. Every day is a different special...I think yesterday they had beer and their homemade mac and cheese....yum!

            Ishmael -
We've been meaning to scope out Harbour 60 (owe the Rabbit-sister a steak dinner)... do you know if they have a set "Happy Hour," or is this standard bar fare with cocktails at any time? Sounds like a good research trip before finalizing choice-of-steakhouse. And do they have a skilled barkeep (I'm betting on yes)?
            Thanks -Rabbit!

Every time I've been there the bartender has proferred some type of food to nibble on--olives and feta, spanish banderillas( pickle brochettes) etc. The serrano ham and double smoked bacon usually come out later in the day-- 4 to 5 pm-- and are available all night.

The bartenders are excellent -especially Franco. If you need something to nibble on he is very accomodating--as are the other bartenders.
