Is SaM this Saturday realistic for not a huge wait?

My husband and I are doing the Revlon Run Walk this Saturday morning, and want to either go for lunch or dinner afterwards.

I know the wait can be it realistic for a mildly impatient woman like myself to go? What times are quieter?

Also, I know Dommy said I could order, go brows at Surfas, and go back to pick up. Is THAT realistic?

What's best on the menu? I have to avoid beef or pork, but love beans, chciken, fish, veggies and such.

It's a new (newer? newish?) Mexican place called Sabor a Mexico that Dommy! has touted.

I haven't been yet, but I think it's in a corner of Culver City near Robertson and the 10 freeway.

Yup, it's on National right up the street from Surfas and RIGHT next to the freeway on-ramp.

    2. When Dommy and I first went it wasn't crowded on that friday night during lent and we ordered 5 separate dishes and it took 15 minutes. I went with a co-worker ordered 2 things and it took 10 minutes. We were there around 3 in the afternoon. From the stories on the board I think they get backed up easily and so look to see how busy it is before you make your decision.

Dommy suggested if you let them know when you make you order you will be going down the street, they could do that. I am less sure that everything would time out right. Bring a book bring a friend chill out and enjoy the anticipation of some really good mexican food.

As far as non meat and pork dishes their veggie dishes are very good like the Queso Fundio con Hongo [Mushrooms and Cheese] The Huarache was an acquired taste it seem a little pungent but that is the way it is supposed to be. And the Quesadillas were excellent. [though we were not impressed with the Vegie Burrito] Chicken Tinga was Great. their menue is Huge so you should be able to find something you like.

      Take care

Do they have aguas frescas and horchata?

Are the portions good and huge?

        1. re: Diana

The portions aren't HUGE (don't expect the Hollenbeck Burrito) But they also aren't stingy, think along the line of Tacos Por Favor, but of course 100x better...

They do have a limited selection of Agua Frescas as well as Mexican bottled sodas. I especially love the Green Apple Sidral.. YUM! :)

      2. There's plenty of good things to order, even if you avoid beff or pork, they have very good squash blossom quesadillas, I also like their potato quesadillas, the hurache with nopales is also very good. We were there last Saturday at around 3:00 pm and it was not crowded at all. Above all they have really good Mexican food, and authentic.
        It is worth the wait!

        1. What's 5:00 Pm like?

          7:00 PM?

          12:00 PM?

          1:00 PM?

          1. Diana,

What you are asking is unknowable. I am not sure if you called SaM they could tell you the answer to that question.

            1. re: Mattapoisett in LA

Yes, it is unknowable. I called one Sunday afternoon and asked. Business was steady, but not terribly busy. I ordered via phone for take out, but once I got there to pick up, no one was around. Other times, it's been packed at peak hours. Doesn't matter. The food's (and value's) worth the wait.
