Would Pastina on Westwood blvd be considered a special occasion restaurant?

I have heard so many good things about the food. Just wondering if the atmosphere matches the food? Need your insight Chowhounds!

  1. By me it is a neighborhood restaurant. The food is good and reasonable, and they have a full bar. We go frequently, but if you are young, the crowd is pretty old.

What do the pasta dishes go for-$ & do they serve nice size portions?

Here's a link to menu pages with prices. Portion size is fine. Not small and not large.

pasta up to 15, main dishes up to 20, but specials, like lobster or steak in cognac sauce are considerably more in price.

      2. I've been going there for years and I definitely would not fall into the "older" category. It depends on the time you're there - early reservations are usually older individuals. We've celebrated birthdays at Pastina. Prices are reasonable, good service, linen tablecloths, full bar and if you let the owner, Frank, know that it is a special occasion he will make sure that it is acknowledged.
