Cevabdzinica Stari Most/Old Bridge (Astoria)

This is the one just up 42nd St. from 30th Ave., heading toward 28th. I think there used to be a small sectarian Greek church in the space.

They don't do burek, they don't do sarma or stews. They essentially just grill meat: cevapi, pleskavica, lamb chops, sweetbreads, sudzuk, and "Sarajevo burgers" on buns. They've got salads to accompany and a few desserts,. It's not upscale by any means, but some thought went into the Old-Bosnia theme of the decor: It's got a bit of an old stone cellar look going on without any actual stone ;)

Anyhow: it's my favorite cevapi so far in the nabe by a good margin. Charred and crisp, and tender, greasy (in the way great junk food is) and juicy all at once and more so of all of the above than I've found at Cevabdzinica Sarajevo, Dejerdan and Ukus. Well-seasoned without tasting of burnt garlic. It comes with the usual bread (good and chewy), mild ajvar, chopped raw onion, and a dollop of tangy kajmak. If there's better, it's at some place I haven't gotten to yet, like maybe that one in eastern LIC.

As seems to be the norm, they have full orders of 10 for $8 and half-orders (in this case, 5) for $5.

The guy working the grill told me they're going to try making some pies during the summer, but not the usual ones.
