Denver State Capitol Building

I am coming to Denver and will be visiting the State Capitol Building. Are there any decent restaurants in the area? I am without a car. Thanks!

The Capitol Building is between 14th Avenue and Colfax (i.e., 15th). If you walk up to 17th, take a right and walk a few blocks (approx. 5), you have a couple of good options on your left-- Steuben's, which serves very good comfort food and has a nice patio, and Aix, which serves really good French food.

Take a walk to the Brown Palace Hotel. For a good lunch, the downstairs restaurant/bar called The Captain's Wheel (or something similar) serves an excellent lobster roll. Say hi to Tom Baines--he served the Beatles when they stayed there in 1964.

Nice historic hotel to wander around in if that appeals to you.....

Are you thinking Ships Tavern? I agree that a visit to this Denver landmark is a good idea. I would recommend a Manhattan or Martini in the bar.

A few blocks away near the Denver Art Museum is Pint's Pub. Good pub food and a selection of about 250 Scotch Whiskeys. Come to think of it, after several rounds of tastings of excellent single malts, I don't really care about the food!

Palette's IN the Denver Art Museum is also very good. In is in the Gio Ponti-designed tower, but if you have time, a visit to the new Libeskind-designed Hamilton Bldg is also worthwhile.

CityGrille, is right across the street, and has great burgers and onion rings. Otherwise, you are right on the 16th St. Mall, which is a free shuttle that will take you all over downtown, so check the other posts about downtown restaurants (there are way too many good places to cover in a single post).
