Like chemchef just mentioned, Teacake Bake Shop isn't bad. Just visited the place today and the vanilla and devil's food cupcakes are pretty and tasty. The red velvet, however, wasn't up to snuff.

Their frosting is great. Not too shabby, overall.

Of the three, I have to say that Crixa is my new favorite, although all make pretty darned good cupcakes.

What's a good cupcake to you? What price? Are you looking for flavors?

Fat Apple's in El Cerrito has some good cupcakes but usually only vanilla and chocolate.
Not a wide range of flavors, but near-ish to El Cerrito (if in that area) is Cassandra's on 23rd in Richmond. Once again, limited flavors ... tho they do have red velvet often ... the charm here being a good price for a from-scratch cupcake ... though not at the top of my cupcake chain in terms of taste ... good, respectable, but not awe-inspiring.
