Gee, I haven't seen one of these in years! I'd try somewhere like Bridge which has an immense selection of kitchenware ...

Thank you very much! They have two types, but they call the tool an "egg topper"

Glad you found it...which one will you get...the plunger or the shear type?

Aeons ago, I had the shear type & found it a pain. Always ended up with bits of eggshell in my egg...I got rid of it & just used a knife. It's probably been much improved since then...

I'm not sure which one I'm going to get. I love kitchen gadgets, but spending $50 on a tool to cut off the top of an eggshell does seem a bit excessive. Although I do have a truffle shaver, it wasn't $50.

D'accord. $50 to cut off the top of an egg does seem a trifle on the high end. OTOH, I'd sure love to know if the d*mn thing works better than the older version. Do report back!

I agree, don't bother with the shears, unless you enjoy obsessively compulsively picking bits of eggshell out of your egg. If you want a clean-edged egg, there's really nothing that works as well as the "plunger-style" egg toppers. (http://www.chow.com/stories/10520) A tip, use a very sharp bird's beak knife to help the separation along.

I bought an egg topper from Amazon a couple of years ago for a similar price. Search for egg topper and it'll bring up some options. There's no need to spend $50 for such a gizmo!
