Decent Indian in Rock Center Area?

My friend and I have a yen for indian food tonight. We'll be in Rockefeller Center area. I know there are some places nearby, but I have no idea if they are any good. Anyone have decent suggestions? TIA>

If you don't eat too late, Sukhadia's (W. 45th between 5th and 6th) is great. It's open until 9:30 and serves mostly Gujarati food. I agree with harrison that Utsav isn't bad, either, and it has much nicer decor.

Shame that I never got to try this place, the menu looks very promising. Talking of Guju food, have you tried the dhokla or handvo from their menu? How come you know so much about desi food?

Gosh, I'm flattered, but I really don't know that much about Guju food at all. My SO is part Indian and we've traveled around India a lot. But I really don't have much special knowledge about Gujarati food in particular, unfortunately.

I haven't had either the dhokla or handvo, since I think Sukhadia's recipes both contain wheat and that's something I'm supposed to stay away from.

Sad to hear you moved away!! (I'll miss your NYC reviews very much.) Hope the food is excellent wherever you decide to go.

There's always Utsav - 1185 6th. I've only been there for the lunch buffet put that's fairly decent.
