Spago in Palo Alto closing end of the month. Last meals May 31, 2007. Glad it's going to be gone.

  1. Why are you glad it's going to be gone? I've eaten there a number of times and always greatly enjoyed it. The food is fine and the ambiance is utterly charming in a peninsula upscale sort of way.

    1. I'm amazed it stayed open as long as it did. Indifferent food and lousy service at ridiculous prices.

      1. Maybe this is karma for banning foie gras. I hope they all close...

Puck is opening a lot of new restaurants all over the country. His empire is thriving.

        2. I have to side with the majority here. I've eaten there at least 5 times and concluded that it is the single worst "bang for the buck" restaurant on the Peninsula ... maybe this is another thread. Completely amateurish service, undistinguished food, overdressed salads, overpriced wine. Can't say I will miss it.

I agree. But then, all of Puck's restaurants are. When I lived in LA, I couldn't believe all the rave reviews all of his places got, and every single meal I had (about 10) was mediocre and overpriced. Luckily, they were on the expense account (my clients were not Chowhounds).
