ISO - Post- Graduation Drinks For This Friday
Hello Fellow Hounds,
I will be graduating this friday from USC's Grad school and am looking for a place for my extended family and friends to go for an afternoon drink/snacks.
I was thinking the rooftop at the standard but they don't accept reservations and the people there were really unhelpful on the whole. But that was my ideal place.
I'm looking for a place that is vaguely near USC, but can go as far as the Miracle mile/ silverlake. Nothing too expensive, but also something that would be impressive for the out of towners (like Standard rooftop).
Any suggestions would be really really appreciated.
I second Ciudad.
Also consider Yamashiro in Hollywood. It's right off the 101 freeway, so the drive wouldn't be too bad if you are going on the early side (2/3pm). Best view of LA and great drinks. Food is ok. Mostly sushi and fusion stuff.
A bit more of a drive is Asia de Cuba in WeHo - great view, food, and drinks and they should be happy to accommodate your party. They've also got a nice pool like the Standard - very LA.
Pete's Cafe and Bar downtown might work, as well as Ciudad!
Given the hour you want to go, it's tough to find a restaurant obviously that's open. You might focus on hotels like Chateau Marmont, the W, Mondrian, Sunset Tower, or head up to the Four Seasons.
Or, consider Lucky Devils and 25 degrees if they'll take you at your desired time.
Try the Bonaventure Revolving Lounge (Not the steakhouse). It's open til 1am, but more importantly, offers a fabulous view of downtown. IMO, better than the Standard's, because you get a 360 degree view without moving. :) Congrats!
Oh, and to keep this food oriented -- they have a delicious delicious tiramisu and an assortment of appetizers, entrees, etc. You also get to keep the glasses your drinks (alcoholic or not) come in.
